Definitions

  • Communications, computer, etc. > % of service exports, BoP: Communications, computer, etc. (% of service exports, BoP). Communications, computer, information, and other services cover international telecommunications; computer data; news-related service transactions between residents and nonresidents; construction services; royalties and license fees; miscellaneous business, professional, and technical services; personal, cultural, and recreational services; manufacturing services on physical inputs owned by others; and maintenance and repair services and government services not included elsewhere.
  • Current account balance > % of GDP: Current account balance (% of GDP). Current account balance is the sum of net exports of goods and services, net primary income, and net secondary income.
  • Export value index > 2000 = 100 per million: Export value index (2000 = 100). Export values are the current value of exports (f.o.b.) converted to U.S. dollars and expressed as a percentage of the average for the base period (2000). UNCTAD's export value indexes are reported for most economies. For selected economies for which UNCTAD does not publish data, the export value indexes are derived from export volume indexes (line 72) and corresponding unit value indexes of exports (line 74) in the IMF's International Financial Statistics. Figures expressed per million population for the same year.
  • Exports of goods and services > BoP, current US$: Exports of goods and services (BoP, current US$). Exports of goods and services comprise all transactions between residents of a country and the rest of the world involving a change of ownership from residents to nonresidents of general merchandise, net exports of goods under merchanting, nonmonetary gold, and services. Data are in current U.S. dollars.
  • Exports of goods and services > BoP, current US$ per capita: Exports of goods and services (BoP, current US$). Exports of goods and services comprise all transactions between residents of a country and the rest of the world involving a change of ownership from residents to nonresidents of general merchandise, net exports of goods under merchanting, nonmonetary gold, and services. Data are in current U.S. dollars. Figures expressed per capita for the same year.
  • Food exports > % of merchandise exports: Food exports (% of merchandise exports). Food comprises the commodities in SITC sections 0 (food and live animals), 1 (beverages and tobacco), and 4 (animal and vegetable oils and fats) and SITC division 22 (oil seeds, oil nuts, and oil kernels).
  • Goods exports > BoP, current US$ per capita: Goods exports (BoP, current US$). Goods exports refer to all movable goods (including nonmonetary gold and net exports of goods under merchanting) involved in a change of ownership from residents to nonresidents. Data are in current U.S. dollars. Figures expressed per capita for the same year.
  • Goods imports > BoP, current US$ per capita: Goods imports (BoP, current US$). Goods imports refer to all movable goods (including nonmonetary gold) involved in a change of ownership from nonresidents to residents. Data are in current U.S. dollars. Figures expressed per capita for the same year.
  • Import value index > 2000 = 100: Import value index (2000 = 100).   • Liner shipping connectivity index > Maximum value in 2004 = 100 per million: Liner shipping connectivity index (maximum value in 2004 = 100). The Liner Shipping Connectivity Index captures how well countries are connected to global shipping networks. It is computed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) based on five components of the maritime transport sector: number of ships, their container-carrying capacity, maximum vessel size, number of services, and number of companies that deploy container ships in a country's ports. For each component a country's value is divided by the maximum value of each component in 2004, the five components are averaged for each country, and the average is divided by the maximum average for 2004 and multiplied by 100. The index generates a value of 100 for the country with the highest average index in 2004. . The underlying data come from Containerisation International Online. Figures expressed per million population for the same year.
  • Ores and metals exports > % of merchandise exports: Ores and metals exports (% of merchandise exports). Ores and metals comprise the commodities in SITC sections 27 (crude fertilizer, minerals nes); 28 (metalliferous ores, scrap); and 68 (non-ferrous metals).
  • Service exports > BoP, current US$: Service exports (BoP, current US$). Services refer to economic output of intangible commodities that may be produced, transferred, and consumed at the same time. Data are in current U.S. dollars.
