Gambia Hunger and malnutrition Stats
Definitions
- Children > Small children severely underweight: Percentage of all children under 5 that are severely underweight.
- Children > Small children underweight: Percentage of all children under 5 that are moderately or severely underweight.
- Global Hunger Index: Indicates how grave hunger issues are in each country on a scale of index values from 0 (no hunger) to 100. Values above 30 are designated as “extremely alarming”, 20-30 as "alarming", 10-20 as “serious” and 5-10 as “moderate”. The index is a composite of the following three indicators: the proportion of the undernourished people as a percentage of the population; the prevalence of underweight children under the age of five years; and the mortality rate of children under the age of five years. The index is calculated in cooperation of several organizations, including the IFPRI, Welthungerhilfe and Concern.
- Undernourished population: Number of people in the country who subsist on less than the required nutritional amounts per day.
- Undernourished population > Percentage: Percentage of population that subsists on less than the required nutritional amounts per day.
